Unnecessary Non-value-adding
Activities that add no value from the customer's perspective nor are they necessary to properly run the business. These activities are often legacy in nature ("we've always done it that way").
Upstream
As viewed from a reference point, upstream processes are activities that take place prior to the reference point (e.g. receiving a request for a quote from the customer is upstream to writing the quote). Contrast with Downstream.
