City & Guilds Award in Energy Awareness (Level 3)

COURSE OUTLINE

This nationally accredited qualification in Energy Awareness has been developed by National Energy Action (NEA) and is accredited by the City and Guilds awarding body at level 3. 

The Award in Energy Awareness is aimed at those in a position to provide energy advice or for those wishing to gain knowledge of domestic energy efficiency.  The course requires attendance at three tutorials augmented by distance learning material.

The course will enable participants to:

  • Identify a range of heating and hot water systems and appliances found in homes
  • Identify the type and function of controls on heating and hot water systems
  • Advise clients on the efficient and safe use of heating and hot water systems and appliances
  • Interpret domestic fuel cost data using reference materials
  • Advise clients on how to record gas and electricity consumption and work out costs
  • Inform clients of ways of paying for gas and electricity
  • Identify the potential improve energy efficiency in a range of dwellings
  • State the grant aid available for domestic energy efficiency
  • Advise clients on how to avoid condensation and how to take remedial action where condensation dampness exists

The NEA Energy Awareness course provides the essential knowledge for those proceeding to the NEA/City and Guilds 6176 examination.  The course also provides part of the knowledge requirements for NVQ Level 3 Provide Energy Efficiency Services. 

DURATION

Candidates complete the programme in 3 days.  Some home study is recommended in addition to the three tutorials.  The course will normally take place over more than one week to allow participants to integrate their home study with the considerable practical element of the tutorials.
