Tant Labs Introduction to Lean Case Study

Lenstec Optical Group have gained vast experience and knowledge in premium optical glazing that includes prescription lenses and frames to support independent opticians with quality lenses, frames and technical software. The group believes in continual investment in the latest IT systems, state of the art machinery and in training their staff so that all quality processes are exceeded. These continual investments ensure the group can meet the challenges ahead in the independent sector, fulfil its customer expectations and guarantee its’ continued success.

To strengthen its’ position in serving the independent optical market, Tant Labs joined the Lenstec Group in 2010. Tant Labs are based in the South East of England and manufacture eye glasses. As part of the groups’ investment strategy in Continuous Improvement it was agreed that staff would benefit from a tailored Lean staff development programme.

Tant Labs were approached by Track Training who offered a range of specialist training options, nationally accredited programmes, industry experienced tutors and access to government funding initiatives to support industry relevant skills.

As part of the initial phase of introducing Continuous Improvement (Lean) methodologies at Tant Labs, Track Training provided Introduction to Lean training to 40 employees in teams of 10 and supported them through the nationally accredited Certificate (VRQ) in Business Improvement Techniques. It was delivered on the companies premises flexibly around shift patterns and all staff achieved the nationally recognised qualification which will go towards their CPD and the future Investors in People award.

Post completion Tant Labs progressed 10 candidates onto the Lean Business Improvement Techniques Apprenticeshp, funded via the Apprenticeship Levy, in order to further their Lean knowledge and show the candidates how to implement practical Lean projects in areas such as Kaizen, 5S and Visual Management Systems.

in a highly competitive market we need to be proactive in improving efficiency and quality, the Business Improvement Techniques course from Track Training enabled me to develop the whole site.  Our trainer delivered an excellent program and really supported our staff through the course. The impact has been fantastic with a real focus on how important the need for continuous improvement is in maintaining success. Thank you Track Training’
